JLPT N2 grammar きり kiri meaning

〜きり/っきり
「Since..never..」

Meaning
◉ 「Since..never..」「Just..」「to continue in a certain state.
◉ When placed after a verb, the verb often uses the past tense “た type”, and the negative type “ない” is added at the end to indicate “no more ~”. There are two ways to use it: “きり” or “っきり”.
◉ The negation in the end can sometimes be omitted, as long as you talk about “きり”, you can understand that the latter means “no more~”.
◉ There is also the use of “ます形” after the verb, which means “to continue in a certain state.”
◉ When added after a noun, it usually means “only ~”. If it is after a “time noun”, it usually means “there is no after ~”.
