Today, I would like to talk about JLPT [N2 Grammar] “〜かのようだ・かのような・かのように(kanoyouda・kanoyouna・kanoyouni)”.

MEANING

  • as if〜.
  • It looks or feels like ~, although it’s not really.
  • “A” is not “B”, but it seems to feel like B.
  • It is often used with “まるで”, “あたかも”, or “いかにも”.
  • “かの” can be omitted in some cases.

SENTENCE PATTERNS

◉ 〜かのようだ

  • Verb(Normal form)+かのようだ:
  • Ex:飛んでるかのようだ。

  • Na-adj+(である)+かのようだ:
  • Ex:野菜が大好き(である)かのようだ。

  • I-adj(Normal form)+かのようだ:
  • Ex:誰もいないかのようだ。

  • 名詞+(である)+かのようだ:
  • Ex:猫(である)かのようだ。

◉ 〜かのように

  • Verb(Normal form)+かのように+Verb:
  • Ex:飛んでるかのように走っている。

  • Na-adj+(である)+かのように+Verb:
  • Ex:野菜が大好き(である)かのように食べてる。

  • I-adj(Normal form)+かのように+Verb:
  • Ex:誰もいないかのように床に横になった。

  • 名詞+(である)+かのように+Verb:
  • Ex:猫(である)かのように飛んでる。

  • Verb(Normal form)+かのような+Noun:
  • Ex:飛んでるかのような魚。

  • Na-adj+(である)+かのような+Noun:
  • Ex:野菜が大好き(である)かのような食べ方。

  • I-adj(Normal form)+かのような+Noun:
  • Ex:誰もいないかのような雰囲気。

  • Noun+(である)+かのような+Noun:
  • Ex:猫(である)かのような動き。

EXAMPLE SENTENCES
